Woodbridge, Suffolk

Evening all and welcome back to 'A country girl in London',

Last weekend we took a trip a little further afield to Woodbridge, Suffolk - around 92 miles from central London. As I mentioned in my first ever blog post, I grew up in Suffolk, so this is a familiar retreat that I love to visit when I can. One of the biggest draws of Woodbridge is its balance between town and countryside, with quaint old-fashioned shops in the centre (1100 years of recorded history!), as well as gorgeous scenery along River Deben. It's the views along the riverside walk that I'd love to share with you all.

The day of our visit, we were greeted by an overcast sky, but for me this just added a haunting enchantment to the place. Lucky for us, the birds were also out in force. Woodbridge have their own RSPB local group due to the abundance of bird species that can be found here. There are a number of black-headed gulls that call this area their home - this weekend they were flaunting their first-winter plumage.

We also saw a small group of ringed plovers - in the photograph below it is really special to see them acting in synchrony with one another.

By following the river round you reach a woodland area, protected by the National and Woodland Trusts but certainly open for the public to enjoy. I hope that you are able to do so some time soon too.
